Additionally Ortiz speaks limited English and has been residing in the United States illegally since 2008. Orlin Bonilla Ortiz The 19-year-old Honduran is accused of the April 9, 2009, murder of Maribel Alvarez, his 28-year-old girlfriend, who was a U.S. citizen and native of Chicago, Illinois. According to the complaint, Ortiz is alleged to have stabbed Alvarez to death in her apartment in Chicago, following a domestic dispute. The Honduran fled the scene before police arrived. Readers are reminded that a complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case in the United States are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
