Liebman Captured

Wanted for Homicide, Robbery and Burglary

December 16, 2007

MORRISTOWN TN NEWS -- A hunted offender eluding surrender (Hoes) has been captured! Juanita Lynn Liebman was wanted for her involvement in a robbery turned homicide that occurred on October, 22, 2007, at the Daytona Shore Inn in Daytona Beach, Florida. Liebman was captured, in Ararat, Virginia by the U.S. Marshals Blue Ridge Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (BRFAST) task force and Patrick County Sheriff's deputies. Ararat, Virginia is located 77 miles south of Roanoke, Virginia, just north of the Virginia - North Carolina state line.

Juanita Liebman makes the last suspect to be arrested in the robbery and murder of James Earl Mason, 36, of Morristown, Tennessee. Mason and his mother were attending the Biketoberfest motorcycle rally in Daytona Beach, and had been lodging at the Daytona Shore Inn. On the day of his murder, Mason had met three other guests at the motel. Mason, bought beer and joined those guests in their room to party. Unfortunately, the party turned out to be a vicious robbery. Mason, was later found by his mother in Jason Bowman's room, a bloodied victim of a beating with beer bottles. Mason, fell into a coma and was on life support at Halifax Medical Center until he died five days later.

Meanwhile, subsequent police investigation determined Jason Bowman was in the company of William McMinn and Juanita Lynn Liebman the day of Mason's robbery. Liebman was linked to the robbery through a surveillance video from a pawnshop in Holly Hill, Florida. The videotape showed Liebman with Jason Bowman as they pawned a stolen video camera from the motel.

On October 25, 2007, Jason Bowman, 31, was arrested in a routine traffic stop in Pecos County, Texas. During his arrest, police mistakenly arrested Bowman's sister as the wanted female in Mason's robbery. Pecos County Sheriff's deputies had also found Juanita Lynn Liebman with Jason Bowman in Texas, but apparently released her after taking her photo. By the time authorities realized they had apprehended the wrong woman, Liebman had fled the state. Notice the mark on Liebman's neck in the side profile?

Later in Bristol, Tennessee, William McMinn, 23, was arrested for his part in Mason's robbery. Both men confessed to Mason's beating, which upon James Earl Mason's death became murder.

As for Juanita Lynn Liebman, after it was determined that Liebman had fled Florida and Texas, Volusia County Sheriff's department in Florida requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Orlando Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team who made her apprehension a priority by declaring her a Major Case fugitive through U.S. Marshals Headquarters in Arlington, Virginia.

Law enforcement believed that Liebman had fled to the Ararat area of Virginia, and notified the U.S. Marshals Office in Roanoke. When Liebman was arrested, she was found hiding behind some large boxes in her mother's home in Ararat. Once discovered Liebman offered no resistance during her capture. Juanita Lynn Liebman was arrested and booked into the Patrick County Jail in Virginia to await extradition to Florida.
