FBI's Most Wanted Emigdio Preciado Jr. is worth $150,000 in Rewards

LOS ANGELES CA NEWS -- Emigdio Preciado Jr., 37, is one of the FBI's ten most wanted criminals. Both the FBI and the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors are offering rewards for his capture. The FBI is offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading directly to Emigdio Preciado Jr.'s arrest while the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is offering $50,000 for his arrest and conviction. Preciado is wanted for an attack on two Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputies, and is considered armed and dangerous.

In Whittier, California, on September 5, 2000, two Los Angeles County deputies were performing a routine traffic stop of a van for malfunctioning headlights. Allegedly one of four suspects riding in the vehicle immediately opened a door and began firing an assault rifle at the deputies. Twenty-one rounds were fired from the assault rifle. One round struck Deputy Michael Schaap in the head. The other deputy escaped without injury. Subsequent investigation identified Emigdio Preciado Jr. As the shooter.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca commenting on the fugitive's addition to the FBI' s top 10 most wanted list said, "This is an important step in bringing this criminal to justice. Emigdio Preciado will be caught and prosecuted to the full extent under the law. Make no mistake about that. He will be apprehended."

Preciado has a horizontal scar on his left ear, a black mole below his right eye, and tattoos of the words "Susana" and "Alexa" on his left chest. He may have had plastic surgery to remove the scars and tattoos.

Since the shooting, Deputy Schaap has recovered. Preciado was an active member of a Whittier street gang, whose criminal record includes narcotics and firearms violations. At the time the traffic stop, he was wanted for a parole violation. In addition, Preciado is the last of the four suspects involved in this crime that has not been caught. Preciado is believed to be in Mexico.
