Most Wanted News: San Antonio, Texas Mexican Mafia Gang Member, David Gonzalez Sauceda has been Captured
Wanted by the U.S. Marshals for Murder, Armed Robbery, Home Invasion, Escape, and Unlawful Flight to Avoid ProsecutionFebruary 7, 2008 SAN ANTONIO TX NEWS -- David Sauceda, a jail escapee facing murder charges, was detained by Mexican authorities when a joint, international law enforcement effort found him in Tangacicuaro, Michocan, Mexico. A documented Mexican Mafia gang member, David Gonzalez Sauceda had a $25,000 reward offered for information leading arrest after escaping from the Bexar County Jail in San Antonio, Texas. While in the jail awaiting trial for murder, armed robbery, and home invasion, Sauceda impersonated his cellmate who was being released on a bond in order to escape the facility. Now, Sauceda is additionally charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution and escape. He is listed as one of the U.S. Marshals 15 Most Wanted Fugitives and is considered armed and dangerous. On October 28, 2007, Michael Garcia, also an inmate at the Bexar County Jail allowed Sauceda to assume his identity after an unidentified person posted his bond. When Correction Officers went to retrieve Garcia for release, Sauceda stepped forward and gave Garcia's serial number to the jailer. Next, during the release process Sauceda's fingerprints were taken by another Corrections Officer, they did not match Garcia's on file, therefore, Sauceda was taken for an additional fingerprint check using the facility's Live Scan technology. However, during that check of Sauceda's fingerprints the system displayed Sauceda's own profile, including his photos. The Corrections Officer then proceeded to release Sauceda. Apparently, the Correction Officer who ran the last Live Scan identification check was unaware that Garcia was the inmate to be released, not David Gonzalez Sauceda. Furthermore, Sauceda was loose for six hours before Correction Officers realized they had released the wrong man. (Sounds to me like Bexar County Jail needs to start using sticky pads.) It should be further noted that Bexar County Jail streamlined its jail processes to increase public safety with a new NEC AFIS and FastID system installation, which began in May and was completed in August 2007. David Dunbar, AFIS manager, Bexar County Sheriff's Office commenting on the system said, "The deployment process has been exceptionally smooth, on-time and within budget. And, we're already seeing an improvement in our record retrieval processes. We've been able to streamline our booking process and eliminate data loss with NEC's AFIS and FastID system." Four hours after escaping, Sauceda was known to be in a car with his girlfriend Angela Jaime and her two children, ages 4 and 5. Both children require daily medication because they are severe asthmatics. Additionally, it is believed Sauceda threatened to kill the children and his girlfriend if confronted by law enforcement. Authorities believe it is possible that Sauceda has fled to Mexico, or could now be trying to return to the United States from Mexico. U.S. Marshal LaFayette Collins released the following statement saying, "Mr. Sauceda is very dangerous man. Now that he is on our 15 Most Wanted list, he is in our world. We will use all the resources of the U.S. Marshals along with those of other law enforcement agencies, including our international partners to bring Sauceda to justice." In 2006, David Sauceda and four accomplices allegedly first killed a man by shooting him in the head and then running him over with an automobile. The gang of killers then chased down a witness and shot him twice as well as stabbed him multiple times. Amazingly the witness survived the attack. Six days later, Sauceda committed a home invasion. During the robbery, Sauceda restrained a 59-year-old woman with duct-tape, then stole her cash, jewelry, and ATM card. Sauceda also stole a Ford Explorer before being arrested the following day.
